Born into the hands
of a very artistic mother in Whittier, California in the year
1958; Lisa Zook always had a plethora of different art supplies
close at hand. Also being fortunate enough to have a highly devoted
High School art teacher, who inspired her with his current works
in progress, her desire to become an artist was very strong.
Lisa enrolled and was accepted at The Maryland
Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and after receiving a
Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design and Illustration there in
1980, she immediately put her degree to use. Employed as a Technical
Illustrator in Silver Spring, Maryland, Lisa worked for a company
that designed and manufactured simulators for the aerospace and
marine industry.
Keeping her drawing skills honed, Lisa works from
figure models two to three times a week. She paints the scene,
or the figure that just plain grabs her. As of late, her artistic
style has been described as impressionist or expressionist, often
painting alla prima and en plein air. She tends to enjoy depicting
a strong sense of light and shadow in her work, and loves to
find what she likes to refer to as the 'hard lines' and 'lost
edges' in a variety of subject matter.
Currently residing in Toledo, Ohio, Lisa has won
numerous awards, entering local gallery exhibitions and shows.
